Last summer I read a bunch of articles on how to become a travel writer. To be honest, I found it so discouraging. I thought I was a travel writer or at least was almost a travel writer. But according to all of these articles I was doing it wrong. I needed to talk to locals more, observe more, spend more time in one place. The only thing that I really took from it was, “To be a travel writer, you should never end a day without writing it up.” So I started keeping a travel journal.
At the time I was in the Mediterranean and I was going on multiple amazing adventures a week. Every night I would sit down and scribble out anything from a few lines to a few pages of notes on what I experienced. I did this up until my flight back home in October.
On my last day in Europe I signed off the Liberty of the Seas in Barcelona, Spain with one goal – make it to Montserrat. Montserrat is a beautiful mountain district outside of the city and I was determined to get there. On my adventure I scribbled notes in my little notepad and I’m so glad I did!
A few weeks ago I saw a call for submissions to the “Tell A Great Story” Contest by LaCure Villas. The assignment was to tell a travel story that you have never published. I usually tell you all about my adventures shortly after they happen, but since I went home on vacation immediately following this one, it and all the details had slipped my mind. And then I found my travel journal. What an amazing adventure I had that day! I’m so glad I wrote it down as it was happening – there is no way I would be able to remember all of those details and you can’t make up a story like this one.
While I’m sorry that I waited so long to share this tale with you, my procrastination paid off. Not only was my article accepted into the competition, it was published on their website as one of the 4 finalists! The winner is chosen by the public and gets a trip to Florence, Italy. To help send me back to Florence all you have to do is read my story HERE then “vote” on my story using the social share icons on the right side of the article. You can tweet it, like it, +1 it, LinkedIn share it, and Pin all 3 of the photos I’ve posted – or do all of those. The voting goes through the end of the month and I appreciate your help.
Coming soon on this blog, I have encounters with 2 potentially hazardous water creatures and I win at trivia. Maybe I am a travel writer after all….

This design is spectacular! You obviously know how to keep a reader
entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost
moved to start my own blog (well, almost.
..HaHa!) Excellent job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
Too cool!
