So I realize that I may call myself a writer and tell people I wouldn’t mind being a writer one day, but the one thing I lack is writing. I frequently think about writing. I sometimes talk about writing, but I rarely write. How did I have so much time to write last year? I guess we had a lot of long driving days at the end of last year’s tour- we have several long days coming up, so stay tuned.
I’m headed back from the New England leg of the Mythbuster Tour today. What a perfect time to go to New England. We had beautiful weather (today is the first we encountered rain) and the leaves were awesome. One of the many highlights of this past week and half was Camp Spofford in New Hampshire. Camp Spofford is a Christian summer camp that hosts retreats during the school year. Their gym was the venue for our first ever show in New Hampshire. The venue was nice enough it itself, but in addition they let us stay there two nights which meant we had a whole day off to enjoy at camp. The staff pulled out all the stops in welcoming us and said we could do whatever we wanted. The camp had a full gym, ping pong, board games, outdoor basketball, shuffleboard, a soccer field, beach volleyball, a lake with kayaks and canoes, frisbees and all kinds of other equipment.
I forced myself to get up at a decent hour the day after the show to enjoy the scenery. There was a gazebo down by Lake Spofford where I sat and read for hours. We then headed into town for lunch. After an hour and a half wait, we finally got our food and made it back to camp only a little late for our scheduled pontoon boat ride. While waiting for our captain to arrive, I hopped in a kayak and paddled around a little. I started heading away from shore, but I soon remembered that I know absolutely nothing about kayaking so it may be best if I turn back. The boat ride was fun- beautiful scenery. Our host took us to a very nice restaurant in Keene. We are very grateful, because our per diem food money would not have covered that meal. It was amazing! Then it was off to Kate’s (a member of last year’s travel team) house to watch the Office.
The next day, I again forced myself to get up early. I packed all my things and hauled them to the bus before heading over to the dining hall for brunch with the staff. After some awkward waiting due to the tardiness of the team, we had a very nice meal. Then two other girls and I hopped in some kayaks and paddled our way to the island in the middle of Lake Spofford. The island is actually Pierce Island, a New Hampshire state park. We hung out on the island for awhile before heading back. The current was going the same way we were, so it was a peaceful and relaxing ride back.
After Spofford, our next stop was Connecticut- a place I have wanted to go for quite some years. I have to be honest- I was disappointed. New Hampshire was more like what I expected Connecticut to be than Connecticut was. However, we did stay in a Doubletree Hotel. They give you free, warm, chocolate chip cookies whenever you ask.

That is good to know about the Doubletree. Who do you ask? Can you just call up the desk and say “Hey, can we get some warm chocolate chip cookies in room 208?”
