Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery - Tomb of the Unkown Soldier

Arlington National Cemetery is the most humbling place in the Washington, DC area. In a town that houses the three branches of government represented by the Supreme Court, the Capitol Building, and the White House, nothing looms larger than Arlington. Despite the historic efforts, political skill, and groundbreaking decisions of the rest of the town, those housed in Arlington are the true heroes.

Arlington is beautiful and heartbreaking. Inspiring and humbling. Men and women who gave their lives for all American citizens regardless of race, religion, or opinions. It’s easy to focus on our differences – especially right after an election. But Arlington reminds us of what we have in common. Freedom.

In honor of our veterans and as a thank you to those who have served I present The Road Lots Traveled’s first photo essay. A collection of images shot throughout a year in the final resting place of our nation’s heroes.
