Not a whole lot to report this cruise, but it has only been 5 days after all. Lots of staffing changes have recently happened or are happening today. One of my team members was transferred and we have a new guy, the Cruise Director leaves today, and one of my close friends (probably my closest onboard, actually) also leaves today. It doesn’t really make me that sad anymore- I guess I am finally getting used to it. It’s about time- after 3 or 4 years of constantly meeting people only to leave in a short while.
Bermuda was typical this cruise- hot and breezy. The nicest thing was that the crew emergency drill we typically hold every cruise was cancelled for this week. It normally takes place around 10:00 am on the first day we’re in port. Without the drill, I slept until noon! It was wonderful! I finally drug myself out of bed and up to the mess for a bite to eat and then headed outside to sit and read for awhile. I’m attempting to read through the Bible in a year. I don’t think I’ve ever done that- technically I guess I have read through it in less than that- 2 semesters. One for the Old Testament, and one for the New Testament. But this is the first time I’ve attempted to do it in a calendar year. I got a little behind before I went on vacation and planned on catching up at home, but that didn’t happen either. I’m committed though and I will catch up and finish it by December 31st! Even if it means spending the Christmas cruise in my cabin reading! Anyway, that’s what I did with Bermuda- read 2 Chronicles and part of Luke. After that I came back on board to work a show before heading back out to the Dockyard for some live entertainment. This was the first time I’ve ever been out at night- I’m usually out all day and working from 7:30 until midnight. I took advantage of my time off and took a stroll. I was out less than an hour, but it was really nice. I walked past the crowd to a dimly lit spot where I could see the beam from the lighthouse I visited a few weeks ago. I’m going to try to visit the other lighthouse- St. David’s- in an upcoming cruise. After my walk, it was back on board to play with my Mac and watch a movie. Last cruise I filmed a gospel concert that my friends I go to church with put on, so I used my new toy to put it on DVD for them. It’s going to take some getting used to- switching between my work editing computer/software, and my personal one. But in the end, it will make me more marketable once I master it- the ability to switch platforms is key!
I expected to have time off in the morning of the second Bermuda day, but I managed to work through it. I was able to squeeze in an hour or so of down time during the day- and I needed it! The next to the last day of each cruise is our busiest because that is the day we produce the DVD we have been filming for each day. In addition to outputting the final product, we had 4 events to shoot and edit. I did 3 of them. It takes my new guy longer to get his pieces done because he’s not familiar with our system- I remember being in his shoes all too well! So I tried not to rush him and told him it was okay that it was taking him awhile. I was finally able to start my capture process at 2:00 am. I went to bed a little before 8:00 am- but thankfully due to the time change it was only 7:00 am now! So I slept until 1:00 pm and watched some TV and was just generally lazy for the next several hours.
Well, I told you I would get better at posting, but I guess I need to get better at having adventures so I have something more exciting to post. Next cruise is the Bermuda and Bahama run. I have no idea what the schedule looks like, but I’m hoping to make it to the other lighthouse in Bermuda and go back to Atlantis in Nassau. But there’s still a lot of work knocking on my door so I’ll probably try to get some of my projects done as well. But I’ll strive for a better adventure:work ratio!
