I took this job in the Caribbean to get out of 25℉ weather, but two weeks ago I voluntarily put myself back in it when I visited Magic Ice in St. Thomas. Magic Ice is an ice gallery and bar: ice walls, ice artwork, ice gazebo, ice slide, a literal bar made out of ice.
I am not a stranger to ice bars. I visited one a couple of years ago in Stockholm, Sweden (Read about that and a famous country artist I saw along the way here.)
While the one in Stockholm felt a bit more authentic, the one in St. Thomas certainly felt more unique. Knowing what I was in for, I dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a long sleeve t-shirt (not typical St. Thomas wear). Those in my tour group wore shorts and flip flops. For the comfort of everyone they gave us parkas, gloves, and leg warmers.
The ice was imported from Norway. My tour guide told me this made sense because at one time both Norway and St. Thomas were under Danish rule. That is a loose definition of “sense” to me, but I am no expert.
I felt like I was back home.
Ice Rock Star.
You are greeted with an icy kiss when you enter Magic Ice.
A literal bar of ice. Don’t sit your glass on it. It will slide off. (Not that I did that.)
